100 Day Practice Challenge!
/What could you have mastered in 25 hours of practice? What? I don't have 25 hours to practice! But can you find 15 minutes a day for 100 days? I think I can...I think I can...I think I can….
What counts for practice? Ideally you'd play at least 5 of your 15 minutes working on something you want to see yourself improve on, e.g., being able to start a note really, really, really softly (decide on this at the beginning of the 100 days and let us know what you’ve chosen). Then the rest of the time you could save for free play such as learning that great melody on your instrument from a song you like, doing scales and arpeggios, learning to read tricky rhythms or even just listening to a tune you are learning. Remember to mark the number of minutes you practiced. You might be surprised…
…strange things can happen…
Firstly, often we end up getting really into the practice and before you know it 30 minutes have gone by. Then, sometimes we start really looking forward to the time we put aside for ourselves and miss it when we forget.
Rules of the game…
Let us know by Monday 7th December what you have chosen for your goal (preferably before this date to give yourself the most time). You have to work on your music for 15 minutes each day. If you forget a day, you have to go back to day 1! Unless it was really unavoidable, you’ll know what this might be…family, personal or instrument emergency…then you freeze your progress, e.g., if it was Day 47 and something happened, you missed a day, your next day would still be Day 47 and you’d go on from there. Deadline for submission is April 1st, 2021 (i.e., you have to have your 100 Days done by this date).
Prizes!
If you can, give yourself little rewards along the way to keep yourself going. At the end of the 100 days, share with us what you have learnt and we’ll celebrate your achievement. We’ll also give you either a gift certificate for a local business or a contribution to your fundraising balance, both to the value of $50. Get in touch with me at allcitybandwhitehorse@gmail.com if you have any questions. I am definitely doing this! I really would like to pay for a nice All-City Band hoodie!
